New version of Cambridge English: Proficiency from 2013

In 2013 (the 100th anniversary of the launch of Cambridge English: Proficiency) Cambridge ESOL will be introducing a new revised version of the exam. This new version is the result of a comprehensive review of the exam completed over a number of years.

Why are we updating Cambridge English: Proficiency?

As teaching and testing methodology and practices continuously evolve, all Cambridge ESOL exams receive periodic updates so as to reflect the changes that occur through this evolution. The use of exams and their appropriateness are also carefully looked at. Each revision cycle includes consultation with teachers, centres and other stakeholders.

What the changes are

In an effort to ensure that Cambridge English: Proficiency remains suitable for career enhancement and for use in higher education while obtaining a fresher, modern appeal  Cambridge ESOL has proceeded with these changes in the exam format:

  • 4 papers instead of 5 making the new exam approximately 2 hours shorter than its current version
  • new test tasks and focuses in each of the written papers

Overall, the exam becomes a lot more user-friendly while it continues to set the standard for C2 level exams.
