Young readers make young learners

An exciting series of story-driven graded readers for primary schools in 5 levels. Beautifully-illustrated picture books introduce young learners to the joy of reading in English and foster a life-long love for language.

Why stories?

Everyone loves a good story – when you keep on turning the pages to find out what happens.  That’s why a strong storyline running all the way through a Senior ABC textbook is a powerful teaching tool, because the students really want to get to the next episode.  A story can play an important part in the students’ motivation to learn English, and it can be a source of enjoyable, useful activities for the students.

 Stories and motivation in the classroom

 The idea to create a campaign which would use ELT to raise awareness about mobility disability issues had its beginning with an article “A day in the life of a disabled person” published in December 2009 by an Athens based English language newspaper.  The article, written by Paul Shaw was a very personal account touching on both his positive and negative experiences of being a wheelchair user living in Thessaloniki, N. Greece, provoked a tremendous response from ELT colleagues in Greece. 

Η Διεύθυνση Εκπαίδευσης και Αθλητισμού, δια του Τμήματος Προγραμμάτων και Δια Βίου Μάθησης, σε συνεργασία με τη Δημοτική Εταιρεία Πληροφόρησης, Θεάματος και Επικοινωνίας (ΔΕΠΘΕ), διοργανώνει την 4η Γιορτή της Πολυγλωσσίας από την Παρασκευή 27 έως την Κυριακή 29 Μαΐου στο Δημαρχιακό Μέγαρο Θεσσαλονίκης. Στη διοργάνωση συμμετέχουν πολιτιστικοί και μορφωτικοί φορείς, ξένα Ινστιτούτα, σωματεία, σχολεία, μη κυβερνητικές οργανώσεις κ.α.

Tο TEACHERS CARE TEACHERS SHARE δεν είναι ακόμα ένα σεμινάριο.

Είναι μια ΔΩΡΕΑΝ Ημερίδα από καθηγητές για καθηγητές, γεμάτη φρέσκες δοκιμασμένες ιδέες για την τάξη, ευχάριστες εκπλήξεις και πρακτικές συμβουλές από συναδέλφους που νοιάζονται και μοιράζονται!

Απευθυνόμαστε σε Ιδιοκτήτες Κέντρων Ξένων Γλωσσών και τους καθηγητές τους και ευελπιστούμε στο τέλος του Συμποσίου μας να φύγουμε πιο ''πλούσιοι'' σε ιδέες ανυπομονώντας να πάμε στα σχολεία μας τη Δευτέρα και να βάλουμε σε εφαρμογή όλα όσα μάθαμε!

Let us be honest about it: given a choice between doing a writing activity or having a tooth pulled out without anesthesia, most students would plump for the latter. Writing frequently features at the bottom of students’ preference lists as far as activities go, and this has been so for years and years. It may have something to do with the fact that while speaking comes naturally to humans, writing is something artificial. Whatever the reason, our students still need to write. So, is there a way of changing their attitude?
